October 2, 2009, Chestertown, Maryland

Greetings from Chestertown … a big old tree has been ‘downed’ on north Queen Street – not sure if the ‘downing’ had the blessing of the Town hierarchy or if the resident owner of the tree had to obtain a permit … Three long time employees of our local newspaper were told yesterday they would be leaving their long time jobs – these people know well those who read the paper and those who advertise in the paper – the three long-time employees represent a total of more than 70 years on the staff of the KCN. That represents a lot of institutional memory lost for the readers - let us all hope our local newspaper – a community tradition – continues for many more decades…Subway seems to be doing a ‘booming’ business at lunch time with their $5 footlong subs! The line goes quickly – lots of repeat customers! It’s candidate time in Chestertown for Mayor and First and Third Ward Council representatives. Let us hope we have some competent people interested enough to have their names placed on the ballot – the election is November 3, 2009 – and there will be no early voting!
